crib bumpers
Or otherwise known as conflicting information...
During our "birthing classes" the pediatrician recommended *not* to use the crib bumper pads as they could potentially suffocate a child. She also recommended a book ( the AAP one below ) that went on and suggested bumper pads are okay.....greaaat
Reading the baby bargains book, i think we've settled on their strategy. Don't get them for now, but if the kid is ramming his head or getting his arms caught in the slats, then go ahead and get the pads. And be sure to get the pads with ties on the top and bottom so the kid doesn't try to get himself caught in other ways....sheesh...

S & I set the crib up and we added the bumper but your post makes me think a bit. There are giraffes, elephants and even froggies on it. What well-meaning dad will want to take that all away from his son?
Just kidding! SIDS is serious stuff and we really should pay more attention to safeguarding the environment for the newborn. We'll just have to see how our tyke takes to the crib and whether he has the tendency to slide to the sides where the bumper is in place.
When are you folks due? April 30 is ours ...
Hey Seshu -- yeah, sids is serious stuff, and thats why the pediatrician advised against using the bumpers.
We're using a borrowed cradle that has the bumpers. We'll probably wait to install them till junior starts ramming his head into the slats.
April 30th is just around the corner -- as is may 3rd
